The exhibition L'Ingegnere Volante opens in Rome

The exhibition "L'Ingegnere Volante. Taruffi torna sulla Via Appia Antica" opened to great acclaim at Casale di Santa Maria Nova, in the presence of members of the press and guests. For the first time, Piero Taruffi’s private archive, today owned by collector Corrado Lopresto, is on public display.

Seventy years after Piero Taruffi reached 313 km/h on the so-called "Fettuccia di Terracina", a stretch of the historic Via Appia corresponding to today’s State Road 7 (Via Appia), at the wheel of his futuristic Bisiluro Tarf 2, the “Flying Engineer” returns to the road that secured his place in history. For the first time, Taruffi’s private archive, is on public display. The exhibition brings together history, engineering, speed and the surrounding landscape, linking the road's two-thousand-year engineering legacy to the birth of modern motoring. The exhibition will be open to the public from October 8 to 8 November.

Diaries, technical drawings, wind-tunnel models, contracts, telegrams, photographs and personal belongings will tell the story of Piero Taruffi: an engineer, aerodynamicist, racing driver and inventor who set dozens of world speed records and helped shape the future of the automotive industry.
