The Lancia "Florida" made its debut in April 1955 at the Turin Motor Show, exhibited in the stand of Carrozzeria Pinin Farina. The car was built on the Aurelia B56 chassis, a platform created for coachbuilders with the 2.3-liter B12 engine.
The Turin prototype, with a two-door coupe bodywork, remained a one-off, but the car was so successful that it gave rise to a very small series of 3-4 four-door units which in turn would have evolved into the Lancia Flaminia, launched in 1956.
The "Florida" design, characterized by straight lines and sharp edges, would influence the world of automotive design for the following decade, ushering in a new generation of cars that abandoned the curved and rounded lines of the 1950s in favor of the square shapes of the years '60.
The unique "Florida" coupe, sold to Commendatore Antonio Melandri, a Milanese businessman, was taken to the Concours d'Elegance in Lucerne, Geneva, Cortina, Campione d’Italia and Rome in 1955, achieving great success.
