"The automobile as a work of art" exhibition shows the latest trends in this area through fine examples at the Museo Nazionale dell'Automobile of Turin and from the Lopresto Collection that were restored by associating traditional restoration technics of vintage cars and the most advanced technics applied to the restorations of artwork.
In the past, vintage cars were going through invasive restoration measures that often chenge the originality of the vehicle with aesthetic as the main purpose.
In the past years, the trend to preserve the originality of the vehicle has been really affirmed, limiting the measures only to those that re-established the suitable restoring conditions of the car, protecting its characteristics in order to preserve the authenticity and the value of it. The strenght of this method, adopted also in the restoration of the car exhibited, is the early stage focused on the study and analysis. Before making any measures on the car, it is analyzed from every point of view according to the historic documentation by making researches and studies of the original technical drawings; then, some scientific analysis are performed with technological equipements capable of associating the exact construction period of the vehicle and to reconstruct the history.
According to these results and the type of restoration that you want to perform, that can be an aesthetic or a functional one, the operational part of the restoration is planned - always with the support of additional studies and analysis to support each one of the decisions.
